The six Gloucestershire local authorities have worked together on a ‘call for sites’ for Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople communities.

This was where members of the local community, landowners and organisations were invited to submit sites to the local authorities for assessment for their suitability for the communities. It took place between 12th August and Friday 4th October 2013.

Next steps

Once the site has been submitted, sites within each district will be assessed by officers and a panel of representatives, including local development stakeholders and relevant community representatives. The potential of each site will be assessed according to defined criteria, after which a separate final report will be published by each local authority. This report will be used to inform future plan making.

It should be noted that this is a technical report used to inform policy rather than a policy document in its own right. The identification of any site in the study does not imply that the council would necessarily grant planning permission or that it would be allocated as a site for the traveller community in emerging Local Plans.

The inclusion of potential sites does not preclude them from being developed for other purposes and the exclusion of sites does not preclude the possibility of planning permission for traveller use being granted. This study represents a snap shot in time and further revisions are likely to be required in the future.
